That’s the sensation you’ll get from swimming in the pool located on the fourth floor of the InterContinental Hotel at Festival City in Dubai. You will feel as though you are defying gravity and swimming in the sky. Swimmers can take in the breathtaking views of the Dubai skyline through the see-through walls. The views are not just for the swimmers, as the guests out on the promenade down below can see what’s going on above through the pool’s glass, transparent bottom. 6- The Hemeroscopium House – Surprisingly, the long, narrow, elevated swimming pool is not the oddest thing about this house. Looking as though it was inspired by a highway overpass, this structure is a carefully constructed pile of concrete beams located in Madrid, Spain. The giant slab of concrete at the very top weighs 20 tons and is what keeps the house together, acting as the center of gravity. This entire building took just seven days to complete. The pool is unique in that it’s long, thin and suspended in midair. 5- Las Lomas Suspended Balcony and Swimming Pool – The beach house known as Las Lomas was completed in 2010 and looks a lot like a huge game of pick up sticks. Located in Playa Las Lomas del Mar which is 75 miles south of Lima, Peru. This design is meant to utilize the 180 degree view of the Pacific Ocean and a beautiful panoramic view of the beach. To make the most of the area, the designers used cantilevers, or long projecting beams usually used to build bridges. The end of the pool facing the sea is transparent double face glass so swimmers have the same view as the rest of the house. 4- Cantilevered Lap Pool – Speaking of cantilevers, this next house also utilized this type of structure to make the most of the space where it’s built. Located near Austin, Texas, this one of a kind lap pool has clear sides and hangs like a prism above Lake Austin below. The pool protrudes 20 feet from the house and drops down to a cliff. The price tag on a house with a pool this spectacular is almost $3 million. 3- Infinity Pool in Bali – The Ubud Hanging Gardens Hotel in Bali has one very special feature. It’s large, multi-level infinity pool is designed to mimic the spectacular beauty of the hills surrounding it. The resort is built on wooden pillars deep in the rice fields of Ubud and each of its 38 private pools are built to integrate seamlessly into the setting around it. Very popular with honeymooners and romantic get a ways, the privacy of each pool appeals to everyone. 2- Hanging Pool at the Joule Hotel – Located at the Joule Hotel in Dallas, Texas, this pool is the epitome of cool. A whopping ten stories above the ground, the pool hangs over the edge of the hotel looking like it may tip right over. Extending 8 feet out past the structure of the hotel, swimmers have a direct view of Main Street and the nightlife below. 1- Casa Vale Do Lobo's Suspended Pool – This pool looks as though it’s levitating above ground in some futuristic house design. Casa Vale Do Lobo is a 6450 square foot house located on a golf resort in Southern Portugal. The house has been designed in a U shape around a courtyard and this is where the suspended pool was built. The upper pool cascades down into the lower reflecting pool creating a very calm, relaxing oasis. There is then an indoor pool which gives the illusion of being filled by the lower pool from outside.
