From a Floating lamp to a Couch Punching Bag and a Interactive cloud lamp here are 16 Everyday Items with an Edgy Twist! Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 8. Floating lamp The first floating lamp was on the market around 2007, presented during Dutch Design Week. And what you see is not an optical illusion. The lamp really is levitating, but not by magic. A hidden magnetic disc keeps the top portion of the lamp afloat. Smaller magnetic coils are present in the lamp so that even if the lamp is moved by accident, the top doesn’t fall over. The floats at least 1 inch, or 3 cm, above the base. Having one of these in your homes adds both a futuristic and magical effect. 7. Smart Brush If you’re one of those people that obsesses over their hair or you don’t think you take care of your hair enough, for about $200, you can purchase a smart brush. Famous hair brand L’Oreal will be putting this little tool on the market very soon. At the start of 2017, L’Oreal announced it’s new product which would be available around mid-2017. That small hole in the middle of the bristle pad is a microphone that records the hair’s soundwaves. Doing so helps the device determine if your hair’s dry, frizzy, or if there’s any split ends and breakage. Makes a little more sense now, right? With the microphone comes a gyroscope and an accelerometer which helps determine the rhythm and force of your brushing patterns. It’s perfect if one of your new year’s resolutions was to have better hair, and you have $200 lying around to throw on a brush. 6. Concrete Speaker Kerry Truman and Julian Robinson came up with the idea and design of these concrete speakers at Nottingham Trent University in the UK. It’s a project being done as part of the architecture department and Kitronik speakers which they encased in concrete for these very modern-looking, urban designs. With their guidance, students at STU made their own concrete speaker designs. 5. Couch Punching Bag German designer Tobias Franzel came up with the idea and design of this couch that doubles as a punching bag. It’s not so strange when you consider lots of people might not have room for a gym in their apartment. Plus, you could easily relax and watch a movie afterward. It’d also be a constantly reminder when you’re binging Netflix for a few days straight that there’s exercise equipment right behind you that you should use. What’s nice is that the couch isn’t super obvious that it’s also a punching bag and blends in nice with if you have minimalist decor going on. 4. Skull Lamp This Bubbleskull lamp was made to make a statement, not to just look like a cool halloween decoration. Hedi Xandt, the artist behind this design, aims to raise the topic of energy wastage as well as human vanity. The lamp is made up of both hard and soft rubber, a modern and almost nihilistic take on a classic bust sculpture. 3. Interactive cloud lamp Despite what seems like a general consensus, some people, like the 90s band Garbage, actually love it when it rains. After all, rain sounds are a popular way to relax. This lamp, appropriately named The Cloud, is a motion-triggered device that gives those in the room a storm-performance. The bluetooth installed lets owners play music through The Cloud, too. It may not be super practical to have, but for major pluviophiles, it’s worth it. 2. OCD Chef It’s a cutting board made for the obsessive compulsive. The edges are outlined in measurements while the rest stencils a grid so you can finely chop your ingredients in an accurate manner. It seems ridiculous, but for anyone who’s both a foodie and obsessive compulsive or just wanting to be really, really exact in their measurements, this product is awesome. The board itself is made of beechwood that’s supposedly anti-bacterial, so it’s great for germaphobes, too. AirSelfie When you plug this thing into the phone case it comes with, your phone will in fact float into the air, giving the perfect tools for an “AirSelfie.” It’s aim is to let users take photos with more ease. So none of those awkward moments when you’re trying fit everyone into a group selfie or having to ask strangers to take a picture of you and your friend at some squirky statue when you’re travelling. The AirSelfie website also says it has smooth landing, too, for anyone reluctant to use it for worry of the state of their phone once the photos are done being taken.
