2014 Lumion Competition entry, Last Stand by Karol Kulczycki, 12 years old

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Hi Everyone, My name is Michał Lubieniecki, I'm an architekt from Poland. About a month ago I asked my 12 y' old neigbour Karol (C.A.R.L.) Kulczycki, if he wanted to take part in Lumion competition for kids. I teach him mathematics and show him a world of architecture occasionally - a world of mine, hoping to see him study someday as I see his progress in maths. Karol said YES and his parents agreed enthusiastically, mainly because they don't want him to play video games for most of free time. He wrote two scenarios: a battle of ships and a story of drone in futuristic world where forgotten, old house on the island is the last oasis standing against modernity. Both were not easy but as I didn't want to let him down, together we downloaded ESRI CityEngine demo version and spent hours preparing 3d model of futuristic city for the second story. After that Karol started downloading, importing and texturing spaceships and othe vehicles from google 3d warehouse and meanwhile I converted model of the house from our office, that Karol chose. We prepared the scene (just the city and the house) together and I left him with Lumion for two weeks. When I came back Karol had 1m30s of almost ready material to render. As the advanced animation doesn't work fine he needed help of mine and I needed help in Lumion forum. We had to split first sequence into 3 and set the movement of the drone manually. I showed him how to do that on clear scene and left him for another couple of days. Of course the animation of C.A.R.L. still wasn't OK but we decided to left it as is because surprisingally Karol made another 30s of the movie meanwhile. It was ready to render. All textures and materials of models, all plants and spaceships with movement by Karol. Sequences (there were more but not all of them OK), camera movement and all the effects by Karol. Together we recorded audio soundtrack in my office from free samples, added HUD of the drone and titles. At the very end Karol decided to add this "part 1" title because he wanted to resurrect his main actor in another movie. Perhaps C.A.R.L. in submarine scene? - he says
