Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

As old as mankind itself, bridges have been around for millennia. Ever since we have been trying to cross rivers, lakes, gorges, mountains or any other natural feature, we have been using bridges to do so. Needless to say the design and size of bridges have changed dramatically over the course of time. While the very first bridges made by humans were simple spans of cut wooden logs or planks and eventually stones, eventually they became exceedingly complex. In fact, some of the bridges became stunning architectural jewels that were able to reach incredible dimensions and shapes. These days, we have monumental bridges that span seas and oceans, soar above jungles and connect cities, countries and even continents. For today´s post, we have searched high and low to compile a list featuring some of the most outstanding bridges that have ever been built. Some of them have been around for centuries and some are just a few years old but all of the bridges you are about to see are remarkable examples of bridge engineering. 10. +list25 Howz about the ACTUAL London Bridge, not its more photographed cousin with the towers? The last to survive of many before (since the Romans in 50ish AD) was built in 1825 (after the more famous London Bridge rebuild from the 1200's had seen too much wear and tear and was near impossible to cross with it's heavy traffic) and sold to Lake Havasu, Arizona, USA in the late 1960's. It was then rebuilt over dry land and had a channel for water cut underneath it. London Bridge is Falling Down was thought to have been sung for this bridge, not the Tower Bridge of London, since the song is thought to have begun somewhere in the 1600's WAY before Tower Bridge was constructed. Cool as the Tower Bridge looks, the London Bridge has a far more exotic history, and there are 2 of them still in existence!! On 2 different continents!!
