Student Government Media Initiative. this new exhibit FEAST RADICAL HOSPITALITY IN CONTEMPORARY ART opened on the evening Wednesday Feb 15th with music, beer, volunteers and artists in costume, free snacks from Enemy Kitchen food truck, and lines out the museum door. The lobby featured drinks, giant cheese sculptures of everything from animals to greek gods. Two bands performed, Theaster Gates, and the Black Monks of Mississippi as we see here. The exhibit on the simple act of sharing food and drink is organized by the Smart Museum, and expands from the gallery area into a number of events the Museum's public spaces. These artist-orchestrated meals are meant to shift perceptions and spark encounters that aren't always possible in a fast-moving segmented society. To this end, in addition to the exhibit, some of the 15+ artists featured here will be holding events throughout the next few months. These include a few thursday night salons with free beer, guest bartenders, hiphop artists, and the neo-Futurists, a theater collective, lunch talks and curator tours, potluck workshops with faculty artist Laura Letinsky, concerts, family crafts days, sketch nights, and closing with an Ice cream social on June 10th.
