This video is about seven facts of architecture; Contrary to popular understanding what most architects do most often is not design. However, teaching design in a university setting is critical for training architects to use a skill they will use every day —problem solving; The word modern can be used in two ways. Modern can mean contemporary and describe new and stylized things like objects, art, and architecture. The word Modern also describes a movement in art and architecture that began in the early 1900’s; A dormer is created because of the need for usable space and light on the interior of building directly below a roof. Dormers are stepped up sections of roof configured in a variety of ways with gable, shed or even curved roofs; In architecture a drawing that cuts a section through the walls of a building approximately 3’ above finished floor looking directly down is called a plan or floor plan. This drawing represents the building in its true dimensional proportions; A vault is an arched ceiling or roof. A vault can be load bearing and thereby create functional space. Barrel vaults are curved and linear. Groin vaults are created by the intersection of barrel vaults. And the dome is also considered a kind of vault; The Space Needle in Seattle Washington was built for the 1962 World’s Fair. It gets its name from the architect John Graham Jr. who saw the final design as looking much like a flying saucer. The needle is 605 feet height; The Beijing National Stadium was designed for the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. The project was a collaboration and the architecture firm was Herzog & de Meuron. The building was nicknamed the "Birds Nest" because of its appearance. 1. ay man i am 17 years old senior year (yiKES) and i am still going through the many engineering majors and i have always wanted to be an architect ever since 7 years old and my sister graduated architecture school (I SAW THE SUFFER IN HER EYES) but i've always been an artist and loved drawing buildings (I SUCK but its fun :) ) i really want to become an architect but i am that type of person that likes various things like physics for example and i don't think architecture needs that much physics right? and other than that i like space and astrophysics and cosmology and mechanics (thinking of studying mechanical engineering rip) (= NASA probably ayyy) but i am still very drawn to buildings (THE DETAILS MAN) and sketching and designing in general i already stay up late at night making my own drawings. but then again I'm not sure if architectural jobs will pay enough or how will the job of an architect will be like (my sister's is basically doing the civil engineer job) AND I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO DO IF YOU OR ANYONE READING IN MY SITUATION WHAT WOULD YOU DO (x files theme plays)
