A French version of the Victorian Style- A Maison Close style decor from the Belle Epoque!

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Visit a Napoleon III style apartment on the French Riviera which fairly reflects the way of life under the French Second Empire. The profusion of satin draperies, silk, cashmeres, padded seats, wall to wall carpet, papier- mache painted with flowered bouquets inlaid with mother of pearls, pieces of porcelain and opalines, all provides a vivid and colorful atmosphere which only this period knew how to create. This opulent and sophisticated furniture has given rise to the famous "cocotte style": Ladies gave sumptuous parties, inviting in their parlors the whole society of art and literature which would green with envy the traditional and puritan aristocracy. 1. This is lovely- but I have just one nit to pick: this is Second Empire style NOT Belle Epoque. The reign of Napoleon III lasted from 1852-1870. The Belle Epoque is later: after the fall of Napoleon III and during the French Third Republic- anywhere from 1871 until the outbreak of WW I.
  2. Perfect !
  3. Gorgeous!
  4. great!
