Abandoned 1908 Hotel in the Italian Alps▭Sneaky Exploration▭Suspiria - 2017 Film Set Location!!

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

In hindsight it was fortuitous that they were getting ready to make a horror film here, (Suspiria - 2017 Film Set Location!!) otherwise we might not have gained entry. I had heard that the resident caretaker was very diligent in keeping people out; And maybe that's why he was so angry when we finally crossed paths. I think it's a very good thing that they have a caretaker, and that he's serious about his job - It would be a crying shame to see this beautiful monument to the Art Nouveau age, be defaced or damaged by mindless vandals. And if he ever reads this...peace - there was no harm done - nothing destroyed, nothing taken (I just hope the film crew follow this maxim)...I didn't even leave footprints :) This majestic Art Nouveau hotel was built in the first decade of the 20th Century. The rich and famous flocked here, as the area was very popular with tourists at that time. In the late 40s a fire destroyed the upper storey (which I would've loved to have seen!) ...this was hastily replaced by a prefabricated structure. It flourished for the next 30 years or so; until in the late 1950s, it was then that the funicular railway that brought a lot of the guests up the mountain...closed. The hotel struggled on for another 10 years. It finally closed it doors in the late 1960s. In the years after it's closure, thieves got in and stole valuable antiques & furniture :( The property was eventually purchased by an entrepreneurial group, not for the purpose of re-opening it, but to 'sell' space on it's roof for commercial broadcasters to mount their antennas. And I found out this was the reason they have a guard...to protect not only the hotel...but mostly the antennas! There was no way I could film the entire hotel, I was indeed lucky to be able to film the parts I did. Once again apologies for the camera, there's no motion stabiliser, no zoom, no flashlight...no nuthin'...but it did the job. I hope you enjoy getting a glimpse of what very few get to see. Oddie - your tour guide. Normally I don't give locations away to protect the buildings against unsympathetic 'visitors' - but in this case the location has been already stated in the film release blurb...plus it's got security - so here's where it is: Grand Hotel Campo dei Fiori, Varese, Lombardia, Italy.

  3. I felt your work was thought provocative. Pretty well done for on the fly. I would have been interested in seeing the guest book. Great location as well.
  4. naughty ghost!...great find. thanks for braving it up and investigating this little gem

  10. What does it mean to "Subscribe"?
  11. I read the description and wonder if the way to get up the mountain was anything like the one featured in the movie The Budapest Hotel, which is one of my favorite films.
  12. Cool! I want to go see it someday!
  13. Gorgeous hotel. Thanks for being a "ghost" so we could appreciate the areas you did film.
  14. Just came across your videos this morning - which derailed my intended plans for the day ! These are AWESOME ! Thank you so much for the work, the risks, & for sharing. I am very impressed !
  15. The footage you got was incredible! I totally agree with you that it felt more like an abandoned ship than a hotel. Love your work my friend 😊💜
  16. Another brilliant piece of work. Was the cranky security guard working for the film company or the property? He just had to make himself look better (or try). If your job is to keep people out and Someone (being you) gets not just in but almost out....doesn't look too good in front of people! Back to what I started to ask - if he works for the film company, think you might try again? (after they leave!). God Bless & Thanks again. 🙃 🎥
  17. Great video ,sorry you were caught.
  18. Fun history in video. And, to that movie set guy wondering who you were filming inside... Well... you're about 33.9 thousand (plus) ODDIES! ha..ha..ha.. :) Thanks for the post and glad ya didn't get arrested! Thumbs up! :)
  19. Beautiful! You are a total rock star for doing this! I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. We had a beautiful tuberculosis sanitarium that was once an amazing and beautiful collection of buildings. After it closed in the 70's, it was re-opened as a convention center. It was closed down for good about ten years ago, and much of the buildings were broken into and destroyed. It broke my heart. Now it has one remaining building, and the site is being turned into a housing division. If you care to look, Google Fort San, Fort Qu'appelle Saskatchewan. There are some beautiful photos online to be seen, and some great stories. There is also a video about the hauntings that you can purchase. It would have been an amazing place for you to do a video. Cheers, Oddie and keep up the amazing work!
