Alec Ross: "The Industries of the Future" | Talks at Google

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Alec Ross and Jared Cohen held a fireside chat at Google on geopolitics and innovation. Alec’s new book, The Industries of the Future, explores the key fields that will drive the next 20 years of change to our economies and societies—robotics, advanced life sciences, the code-ification of money, cybersecurity, and big data—and provides the geopolitical, cultural, and generational contexts out of which they are emerging. Alec is one of America’s leading experts on innovation, serving four years as Senior Advisor for Innovation to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In that role, he traveled more than half a million miles to 41 countries, including the war zones of Syria and cartel-controlled border towns in northern Mexico. He was also exposed to the highest levels of leadership in the biggest technology companies and governments around the world.

Comments

  1. great point about companies relocating to deregulated genome engineering environments. will the un develop international policies to stop this?
  2. I can't even watch this. Why did they not record the sound through the soundboard? Would have made it more listenable. Also, Talks at Google are garbage and could never compete with Ted Talks.
  3. Please contact me about a speaking engagement about your book
  4. Fuck this guy
  5. Microphone's sensitively is to high. The guy with a running nose needs to NOT add to soundtrack!! It distracts from the Speaker.
  6. you would think GOOGLE might manage a much better sound system.
  7. Globalization is gutting the United States. Thanks for all you do for the incredibly wealthy dude. And that "thing in your ear" that translates all languages is called a Babel Fish.

    http://hitchhikers.wikia.com/wiki/Babel_Fish
The Babel Fish is a small, leech-like, yellow fish, and by putting this into one's ear one can instantly understand anything said in any language; this is how Arthur Dent is able to comprehend the other beings he encounters on his travels. The Babel fish has led to significant and profound consequences for the Universe; apart from the philosophical implications, the Babel fish has started more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation, because it has removed all barriers to communication.

People pay you to talk about these things?
  8. Wow, a talk by Hillary Clinton sycophants! Gag!
  9. You really need better sound quality on talks
