Anders Sandberg on Singularity 1 on 1

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

http://www.singularityweblog.com/anders-sandberg-on-singularity-1-on-1 Dr. Anders Sandberg is a well known transhumanist, futurist, computational neuroscientist and currently a research fellow at the Future of Humanity Institute in Oxford University. I enjoyed talking to him last time he was on Singularity 1 on 1 and was happy to have him back for another one. During our second conversation with Anders we cover a wide variety of topics such as: transhumanism and the ethics thereof; the limits of being human; the Epic of Gilgamesh and our quest for immortality; overcoming death and enhancing life; life expectancy and our willingness to take risks; the potential for enhancement arms-races; the likelihood of armed conflict between transhumanists and neo-luddites; the most likely path to human enhancement; personal versus collective enhancement; hive-minds, distributed intelligence, the Borg and individulaity; post-humanism and mind uploading. My favorite quote that I will take away from this interview with Dr. Sandberg is: "That which does not kill us only makes us stranger." 1. Many interesting subjects discussed in this episode .....
  2. 56:27 We might enhance the brains of Chimpanzees to do math. We might put our language into a dolphin's brain and then be able to talk to him. The possibilities are huge. And what interests me the most of all is that we might be able to embed a micro chip into a criminal's brain which will give him the ability to feel compassion. That technology will totally turn humanity upside down, it would be so interesting to see what will happen then, I believe that some psychopaths might even commit suicide with such a micro chip because of the realization and its emotional content about what they had done in their lives.
  3. The worst research done by military laboratories are the bio weapon tests on dogs. I almost passed out when I read about that in 2003. I wrote petition letters to legislators to stop those tests.
  4. You are very welcome friend! I am happy if you enjoyed it!
  5. Thanks for this interview! :D
  6. He totally is!
  7. I still can't believe that I got the chance to talk to this amazing guy last week. I am still stunned. He is even more awesome in real life.
  8. Yes indeed, Anders is fantastic!
  9. What a great and eloquent thinker Sandberg is.
  10. in love with anything. That is the project that will ultimately stop anxiety and depression and problems in people. This sure sounds like the "frankenstein" project of all for some people. I think the blue brain project will answer this question once and for all. If it turns out there is not a possible structure of the brain to have this kind of quality, then people will escape into virtual realities where they can take a new life and erase their memories of past. Any thoughts?
  11. Anders Sandberg speaks about some drug to take to stay in love with somebody, I think the problem lies in the brain wiring/structure. And he rightly notices that taking a pill is controversy and I predict that most love relations will not last because poppin some love pill isn't percieved as normal in natural human's brains. That's why I think in the future there will be a project to try to structure the human brain with nanobots so that people come "free" of gender limits so people can fall
  12. Sent you a personal message.
  13. That is a great suggestion friend. I do know who Anthony Atala is but have yet to search for his contact info and ask him to get on my show. Feel free send me his contact if you find it...
  14. Socrates, do you think, that it would be possible to interview Dr. Anthony Atala? 18 people die every day, because the transplants they need, are not available. Despite this, getting an transplant brings many inconveniences like immune suppression. Dr. Atala could have the solutions to this problem but it would be so interesting to know, if he advances. He was on TEDtalksDirector and is at the forefront of culturing/printing organs.
  15. Great answers by Dr. Sandberg.
  16. Happy you liked it friend!
  17. Great as always, Socrates. I liked Anders' answers :)
  18. I don't think either Anders or me said that enhancement are going to be used just for good because we are keenly aware that they are not.
  19. Its nieve to think that inhancements are only going to be used for good and makind humanity better. Nuclear weapons are my example.
  20. Tranhumanism as a whole, I sometimes feel is like that at this point...50/50 because so many issues are still so personal to people and many of them are still abstract and their is no real alternative...but again, when all these things because practical issues with real alternatives, like immortality...the whole thing changes entirely and it becomes much more tempting, and harder to argue against, the "unnatural" enhancements and therapies that can profoundly change our lives.
