Art Deco Amsterdam: Theater Tuschinski

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

New Amsterdam Travel Video - We love Art Deco architecture and design and there are many forms of it in both the exteriors and interiors of buildings all around Amsterdam. One of the most iconic examples of Art Deco is the Theater Tuschinski, right off the Rembrandtplein. Built in 1921 by Abraham Tuschinski, both the inside and outside are a rich, opulent feast for the eyes. Step back in time as Sander gives you the grand tour through the ornate lobby, the grand main theater, the upstairs balconies and the backstage VIP room. Besides the Deco style, there are also influences of Gothic, Art Nouveau and the Amsterdam School. The theater still operates as a Pathe cinema and you can take an audio tour of the theater every morning before the first film. 8. I have been there for a movie and I still found this video to be awesome! Great job!
I've never been in the "main room". Wow!
On a very sad note: "When World War II broke out, Tuschinski lost all his cinemas in Rotterdam when the city was bombed by the Germans on May 14, 1940 (see Rotterdam Blitz). On July 1, 1942, he was transported to the Westerbork concentration camp in the northeast of the Netherlands, and from there to Auschwitz, where he was murdered."
  9. nice ! :)
