Art Deco Preservation Ball

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Here's the news coverage from when the Art Deco Society of California (ADSC) staged their first "Art Deco Preservation Ball" to raise awareness of the music, architecture, fashion and art of the 1920s and '30s. The setting was the sumptuous Paramount Theatre, the Oakland architectural and cultural gem designed by the firm Miller and Pflueger. It was the first time, since the 1973 restoration, that a dance floor had been installed in the luminescent lobby, underneath the frosted glass "waterfall of light" and the ziggurat coved ceiling. The event will be repeated in the Paramount on Saturday, May 16, 2009, enhanced by the live music of Don Neely's Royal Society Jazz Orchestra, featuring Carla Normand. For tickets call the ADSC at 415-982-DECO or www.artdecosociety.org click "whats new".
