Artist In Residence - Street Art Chilango ft. Andrik Noble (Hotel El Ganzo)

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

The Street Art Chilango Crew returns to El Ganzo, this time featuring the work of Andrik Noble. Andrik and Street Art Chilango founder, Jenaro de Rosenzweig set out to create their now famous storm trooper mural at the El Ganzo Rooftop. The largest storm trooper yet. Amongst the cacophony that composes Mexico City’s visual landscape – illustrated storefronts, peeling buildings, art deco balustrades, rows of market stands and colorful signs – it can be easy to stroll past something magical without ever seeing it at all. Especially if its painted on a wall and blends into the city street. That’s why some may be surprised to learn that a vigorous art movement has been emerging within the city; those with keen eyes may have noticed it amongst the metropolis’ abandoned spaces, empty walls, and bustling avenues. A group of former graffiti taggers and graphic designers have joined together to form a cooperate called “Street Art Chilango”, housed within an semi-derelict house in the city’s historic center. Every Saturday they organize street art city tours, highlighting works of art the likes of Trash, Jenaro, Poske, Chachacha, Tatoki y Mono (many of whom they also represent), and have both a physical and virtual gallery that documents works all around the city. They’re savvy users of social media, using hashtags and Instagram to map out new and unknown creations, and help to promote the talent of artists. What’s interesting to note is that Mexico a country famed for its sweeping works of great muralists – Diego Rivera, Orozco, Eugenio Tamayo – and one could perhaps see this as a new generation of talent picking up the reins, intervening in their urban environment, with a powerful social message once again. http://elganzo.com/ With just 69 guest rooms and a keen eye toward style and aesthetics, Hotel El Ganzo is a refuge, and a mind-opening departure from cookie-cutter hotels. Custom-created furnishings and original décor elements help to set the visual tone, against the natural backdrop of the beautiful Sea of Cortez.
