Aspire - Hint Of Old Lends Shine To Contemporary Jewellery

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Jewellery can take one back in time to a particular era, to its architecture, design and lifestyle. Designers are recreating and carefully crafting jewellery for the contemporary Indian woman, who seeks multiple uses for a single piece. These designers are breaking away from the regular and producing jewellery that allows one to flaunt a piece of history in a minimalist fashion. A great example of infusing the old with the new is Bina Goenka's recent collection that recreates Art Deco jewellery inspired by the 1920s. Renu Oberoi also draws inspiration from the Art Deco and Victorian eras and her pieces reflect the best of both worlds. Manish Arora's collection for Amrapali fuses east with west and reinvigorates techniques and motifs from Indian royalty. Mumbai's Maharani Jewels' pieces are reminiscent of the Mogul era yet modern in composition, while Suhani Pittie's Grunge Begum Collection, inspired by the Nizam era, represents an interesting infusion of constraint and freedom.
