Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Published on Jan 23, 2014 (Hong Kong, 14 January 2014) Hong Kong designer Erbert Chong presented his Autumn Winter 2014 Collection on 8th January at the iconic Sunbeam Theatre. The launch, featuring the new 1910's and 1920's inspired collection, was a night of old world glamour with a dark twist. "Fritz Lang's 1927 Art Deco film Metropolis was a key source of inspiration. I wanted to emulate the futuristic dystopia setting, dazzling cityscapes and hypnotic mythical imageries to set the dark undertone of this collection. I also combined elements from Art Deco architectural masterpieces like the Chrysler Building in New York City, to create modern silhouettes with strong geometrical lines." Erbert Chong commented on the new collection. Heavily influenced by his Hong Kong heritage, Erbert often plays with the dichotomy of the old and new, with an aim to create a gracefully-edgy new look of Asia that focuses on re-inventing the local legacy with a universal aesthetic. The pieces of this collection have Chinese heritage influenced details and silhouettes drawn from the traditional qipao, with fabrics sourced from Paris and Beijing's oldest, historic fabric shop.
