Building Icons: Episode 4, Aurora Place, 88 Phillip Street, Sydney

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

In the fourth edition of Building Icons we speak with Architect Ken McBryde, Local Representative Architect for the Renzo Piano Building Workshop. The Renzo Piano imagined Aurora Place is seamlessly integrated into one of Sydney's most idyllic commercial locations. Nestled beside the Botanic Gardens, and directly above Sydney's Harbour and famed Opera House, this Building Icon offers tenants and visitors uninterrupted, permanent views and easy access via car, bus, ferry and train. According to Ken McBryde however, it's collaboration between the precinct and people is what makes Aurora Place so special. The building unfurls outward and upwards like sails in Sydney yacht races while its terracotta base and wooden interiors ground the property in the earth, creating the warm, human, living space that spills onto the street and is enjoyed by thousands of people every day.
