Chinese President Xi Jinping underlined China’s foreign and defense policies in his speech to mark the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Friday. China unswervingly adheres to peaceful development, practices a mutually beneficial open strategy leading to win-win progress, and strengthens friendly ties with other countries to advance the lofty cause of peace and development for mankind. Making more contributions to human development has been a solemn commitment made by the CPC and the Chinese people. China maintains that people around the world make concerted efforts, turn pressure into impetus, transform crisis into vitality, replace confrontation with cooperation and substitute win-win endeavor for monopoly. China will actively participate in the construction of a global governance system, contribute its own wisdom to improving the governance system and help bring the international order and the system onto a fairer and more rational development path. "The purpose of China’s foreign policy is to maintain world peace and promote common development. China will, as always, serve as a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order. We are willing to explore more shared interests with other nations, form a new model of international relations based on win-win cooperation, and promote the development of a community of shared destiny and interests for all mankind," Xi said. China firmly pursues an independent foreign policy of peace by launching friendly cooperation with all other countries on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, that is, mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence. China is steadfast in implementing its basic State policy of opening up to the outside world and dedicated to building a more comprehensive and diversified opening-up architecture in major international cooperation projects including the "Belt and Road" initiative which refers to the Silk Road economic belt and the 21st-century maritime Silk Road proposed by Xi in 2013. The Chinese people are deeply aware that China's development benefits from the international community and therefore are willing to contribute to the world development with its own growth. China advocates the configuration of a community of shared destiny for mankind and is opposed to the Cold War mentality and the zero-sum game. "China neither covets power of any other nation nor envies the development of any other nation, but we never give up our legitimate rights and interests. The Chinese people neither believe in nor fear evil forces, neither make nor fear trouble. Any foreign nation should not count on us trading with our core interests and suffering the consequences of damaging national sovereignty, security and development interests," Xi said. The CPC will launch further communication and cooperation with political parties and organizations from other nations based on the principles of independence, equality, mutual respect and non-interference into each other’s internal affairs. Upholding and improving the CPC leadership constitutes the essential element of the nation’s foundation and lifeline as well as the interests and happiness of the Chinese people. It is a strategic task of China’s socialist modernization drive to build a powerful army fit with its national security and development interests. China needs to coordinate its economic and military development and ramp up the revolutionization, modernization and regularization of the army in an all-around way.
