What breaks my heart is that while I was growing up there I never appreciated this beautiful architecture, perhaps because all the buildings were so decrepit (like the society we were living in) that all I dreamt of was to get the hell out of there and be able to see the Vatican, La Scala, the Taj Mahal and much more (which by now I have seen). I would love to go back there with today's eye but I will only do it when those mf... who run that country recognize my American passport and citizenship

Soy unos de los pocos privilegiados, que nunca vivió el Castrato, cuando los cuatreros se roban a Cuba, ya yo estaba en New York, desde el 57'...jamas he regresado, vine de 23 y ya estoy llegando a los 80. Era muy bailador, yo y mi amigo Paco (recien fallecido) siempre recordabamos los buenos tiempos del Nautico, La Concha, Sn.Carlos,Gallego, Asturiano, Dependiente etc. una vida sana, musica, estudios y buenos amigos. 6. @inbrooklyn2008 Bullshit ! It was prescisly in the most glamouros capitalist time frame of Cuba and due to Capitalism that these pieces of art were created in Havana. You only should go to Cuba in person and see first hand in what stage of deterioration these buildings are due to the disgraceful Castro's Regime. It had to be thanks to a foreigner like "albertdiner" who surely being a porfessional connaisseur of this type of art and who while making this was crying and later making touch up.
7. Fidel Castro es todo un mentiroso, acabo de ver esos videos, casi todos fueron construidos muchos años antes de la fracasada Revolución Cubana. Conozco muchos lugares habaneros que aparecen en el video que puedo mencionar, el Palacete Baro-Lasa, Teatro Fausto, residencia del Primer Vicepresidente de Cuba Luis Estevez y Romero, entre ellas. ¡¡¡¡¡¡BOITEL, POLLAN y ZAPATA VIVEN!!!!!! ¡¡¡¡¡VIVA CUBA LIBRE Y DEMOCRATICA!!!!!

13. Havana's enforced slumber of the last 50 years has allowed innumerable buildings to survive which otherwise would've been demolished, as in most other cities. On the other hand, the lack of maintenance has left a lot of these same buildings in ruinous condition. When capitalism again reaches Havana (in whatever form) and development starts up again, I hope there will be a strong preservation awareness that will keep the best of what remains.

16. Ya se dan cuenta que ni el imperialismo ni el comunismo traen las glorias del mundo al alcance de todos. Eso es imposible esperar de cualquier sistema economico y politico! Sin embargo, hay que reconocer que La Habana antes de Fidel era una joya arquitectonica y cultural. Por mas pobre o rico que fuera el habanero, se gozaba con una singularidad que, hasta hoy, el cubano se conoce por ese gusto a la vida. Ojala que puedan disfrutar las imagenes y apreciar una sociedad que existio!
