LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/dw2cco David Wood's Summary I have spent 25 years envisioning, architecting, implementing, supporting, and avidly using smart mobile devices, including ten years with PDA manufacturer Psion PLC, then ten more with smartphone operating system specialist Symbian Ltd. My background includes: many years building and integrating UI system software and application frameworks in 16-bit and 32-bit versions of "EPOC" software (later named "Symbian OS"); growing and directing the technical consulting teams that worked with leading phone manufacturers to create the world's first successful smartphones; and defining and running development programs to stimulate and nurture the Symbian partner ecosystem. From the first half of 2008, I was involved in preparations and planning for the independent open source Symbian Foundation. I served on the Leadership Team of the Symbian Foundation as Catalyst & Futurist until October 2009. I continue these same roles from within Delta Wisdom: *) As 'Catalyst', my task is to enable communities to discover and explore innovative solutions for the many challenges and opportunities posed by disruptive changes in technology and society; *) As 'Futurist', my task is to distil compelling visions of the future of technology, business, and society -- visions that provide the energy and inspiration for deeply productive open collaboration. I have an MA in Mathematics from Cambridge University and an honorary doctorate in science from the University of Westminster. My first book was published in 2005: "Symbian for software leaders - principles of successful smartphone development projects". In 2009 I was included in T3's list of "100 most influential people in technology". In 2010 I featured in the world's first Augmented Reality CV: http://arcv.cwjobs.co.uk/augmented_reality_cv Outside of work, I am chair of the London Futurists -- a meetup organisation with over 1500 members. 1. Perhaps "Smartphones" don't believe there's anything like "smart" humans out there.
  2. I'm not sure if or where exactly we can or should draw a line between "randomness" and "intelligence"/ or "chance" and "creativity"/ or between "complexity" and "consciousness"?... Is our existence simply based on "luck"? Are we only here "by chance"? Is evolution "only" random stuff happening? Or can we/ do we maybe even have to assume that (at some point) some kind of "logic" kicked in? I suppose, what we call "intelligence"/ or "consciousness" probably happened long before brains emerged.
  3. Videobomb! :D @ 8:17 I totally knew in advance that his wife (or somebody) would appear in the background, eventually! I've been watching the door from the start of the interview, actually! I love webcam/VoIP interviews... especially for the casual peek in private living spaces! ;)) Transhumanists are humans, too! Lovely to see the human aspect !
