The Euclid Tower, one of San Diegos most cherished landmarks, has been restored to its former stature and color by the citys Redevelopment Agency. Torn down for safety reasons in 1999, the famed art-deco structure is the centerpiece of a City Heights redevelopment project that includes the planned restoration of the Silverado Ballroom and the Egyptian Garage. Together, the three structures made up an Art Deco Moderne architectural district. Designed to resemble New York's Empire State Building, the tower was erected in 1932 and soared 100 feet over the surrounding community. Currently, the base tower building is a privately owned, two-story structure and houses two business tenants. The property owner and the tenants were involved with the restoration project. Architects Richard Bundy and David Thompson did the design.
