See more about it http://givegenerously.jdrftype1.com Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune condition in which the immune system is activated to destroy the cells in the pancreas which produce insulin. We do not know what causes this auto-immune reaction. Type 1 diabetes is not linked to modifiable lifestyle factors. There is no cure and it cannot be prevented. Type 1 diabetes: - Occurs when the pancreas does not produce insulin - Represents around 10% of all cases of diabetes and is one of the most common chronic childhood conditions - Onset is usually abrupt and the symptoms obvious - Symptoms can include excessive thirst and urination, unexplained weight loss, weakness and fatigue and blurred vision - Is managed with insulin injections several times a day or the use of an insulin pump. Media Credits Column http://broadcaster.beazil.net/public/credits/youtube/videos/169419 JDRF was started by volunteers committed to creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D) for their children—and everyone else affected by the disease. Without their vision, it would have been impossible to grow into the organization we are today—or to devote so much time and money to funding T1D research. We celebrate the power of everyone to make a profound impact with their time and talents. That’s why we ensure our volunteers are best placed, trained, recognized and supported at every level. As a JDRF volunteer, you'll join a tight-knit—but far-reaching—community that truly cares about finding a cure for everyone affected by this devastating disease. Your service will directly impact our ability to fund T1D research. JDRF is the world's leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research and raise money to drive world class research. We aim to find new ways to treat type 1 diabetes and its complications, prevent type 1 from developing and find the cure for people who already have the condition. alfred f. gerriets ii Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter underwritten Alfred F. Gerriets Hope Initiative http://louisvilleky.com/louisville-kys-central-high-school-to-host-king-concert sponsor JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. Excluded from this sector are aerobic classes in Subsector 713, Amusement, Gambling, and Recreation Industries and nonmedical diet and weight reducing centers in Subsector 812, Personal and Laundry Services. Although these can be viewed as health services, these services are not typically delivered by health practitioners. Bracketing a curve in the Missouri River, Bismarck, North Dakota, looks across the water at its sister city, Mandan. This second-largest city in the state (after Fargo) is the capital. Most folks would wisely choose not to visit this northern Great Plains city in winter, as the average temperature in January is 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Better to wait until July, the warmest month, when temperatures soar into the 70s. The city's tallest building and one of Bismarck's top attractions, the 241-ft State Capitol towers over downtown. It is not a neoclassical domed structure like so many others. Built in 1934 to replace an earlier edifice, this Capitol flaunts an Art Deco style.
