Future Weapons - Laser Weapons

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Laser Weapon are the future of military warfare, in fact US Navy, USAF and US Army are actively looking at integrating combat lasers in to defence systems protecting US and allies troops from an enemy missile or a mortar rounds, protecting ships from incoming enemy anti ship missile and fighter jets from enemy anti aircraft missiles. In matter of only few decades we'll see introduction of War planes that instead of using 30mm cannons will use laser guns to shoot down enemy fighters and for ground attack using wing based laser cannons to pound enemy in to submission. ... 2. Powerful lasers on tanks apart from lower power versions for missile defence, against drones or infantry, seems pretty unlikely and here are reasons why:

    - While lasers are good for precise strikes on soft targets, for use against other tanks or armoured vehicles is laser bad choice of weapon, thick composite armour will prevent laser to penetrate within a reasonable timeframe in which enemy tank armed with kinetic penetrator can easily retaliate (even today tanks are equipped with laser illumination warning systems, so no silent kills of tanks with lasers in the future).

    - In the tank is not enough space for equipment required for the liquid laser with output of several megawatts, nor tank engines are powerful enough to power hi-power electric lasers to be used as the main weapon as can be achieved on jet fighters with over 10 times more powerful engines.

So, you definitely can put the laser on a tank, as a missile defence, in the role of a machine gun, but as the main weapon, it's not the best tool to do the job.
