SOUNDBITE: (German), Volker Bruggen, managing director of Megaposter "In the beginning, of course, there were a lot of discussions about building a futuristic building in this historical area. And also it was probably not easy for town planners or people working for the heritage authority to imagine this building here in this way." 26. Wide pan right from Berlin Cathedral to box 27. But I think the palace that stood here before looked better. I don't like the contrast with the old buildings like the Berlin Cathedral and the new box" 29. Wide of box, and street 30. But I think in eight years when this is gone and the palace is here it will be beautiful." 31. Mid of box 32. SOUNDBITE: (German) Volker Bruggen, managing director of Megaposter "Getting people's attention is what the Humboldt box is supposed to do, in order to get as many visitors as possible and spark their interest." 33. Wide of box LEAD-IN It looks like it's landed from space but Berlin's Humboldt Box has a very earthly purpose. The futuristic cube, against the backdrop of the city's baroque Cathedral, is designed to draw people's attention to the Berlin Palace, which is under construction. STORYLINE Here in Berlin's historic centre is the Humboldt Box, a futuristic construction made out of metal and blue mesh. The building towers 28 metres (92 ft) above the Unter den Linden - one of the main shopping and tourist streets in the German capital. But with Berlin's baroque cathedral right next-door and the iconic Berlin TV tower casting a shadow over the box - how does the new building sit in its new home? If you're thinking it looks out of place - you're not the only one. But the building is only temporary and will be dismantled in 2019 when the Berlin palace, or Humboldt forum, as it is also known, has been completed. Until then, the box will stand next to the building site, informing locals and tourists about the history of the palace and the reconstruction work. The building site next to the box is little more than a giant sandpit. Work is set to begin in 2014 and is planned to finish in 2019.
