Futuristic floating city

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

French architect Jacques Rougerie has designed a 3,000-foot-long, manta-ray-shaped vessel capable of hosting 7,000 people. The city of MΓ©riens will be a floating university city for researchers and students. 2. God, I would kill to live there, the ocean is so cool and the idea of living at sea is like a literal WET dream.
  3. oh yeah.... on which planet?
  4. this is poop so gettttt dunked on
  5. It looks like a vagina
  6. And it got bombed by somali pirates.
  7. 1. Living spaces to farming spaces are not realistically sustainable.
    2. Environmentally this thing is a disaster - for so many different reasons. Human waste, industrial waste, chemical waste - where does it all go? Right into the ocean?
    3. It looks like a floating cunt.
  8. nice vagina.
  9. Not a new concept but no one has been able to pull it off yet!
  10. Β£1000 it never happens
  11. BioShock πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  12. Am i the only one that thought of Balamb Garden in FFVIII while looking at this video? I mean, an academy able to float on water...
  13. I am skeptical that would stay afloat for long, at best it would be awful to live on in any kind of rough weather, as anyone who has traveled across the ocean on a ship can tell you, the surface doesn't stay nice and calm all the time. The first sign of of any storm and that would be an awful place to live, think what its like on a cruise ship in a storm. Okay its super large, so some might say the weight and size of it will make it stable, but I cannot see it myself, if anything I think that will put too much strain on the materials and its structure. I may be wrong, and it would be kinda cool if they did pull it off (Safely), I'm just skeptical.
Creating extra land area near the shore though and having a foundation is ofc possible, but floating it out in the middle of the ocean? I don't think so. They would be better off just using a large aircraft carrer imo.
  14. And also looks like a vagina
  15. Anyone know what music it is?
  16. that thing is not sea worthy, seriously, if you have ever seen storms with the giant swells and other anomalies this thing is dangerous.
  17. My husband Bryan is a biochemist who's involved in cancer research. The last place we'd want to live is in an isolated, manufactured community. We've been fortunate enough to be able to arrange our lives so that we always live in cities, surrounded by art and music scenes, good restaurants and pubs and most importantly, a diverse community with all different kinds of people. The belief that scientists want to be (or should be) isolated and protected has been around for a long time, and it's not true for most people.
  18. Wow, this is really incredible! Would love to live & work there!
  19. What the song ???
  20. sign me up! I"ll take my cell and molecular bio degree up to PhD if I were to have an invite
