It’s funny sometimes what us humans like to celebrate… especially when, in cases like this… it’s actually a catastrophy which causes the celebration. But that’s exactly what’s happened in the New Zealand city of Napier where on the 3rd of Februay 1931 a massive earthquake destroyed the city… and then gave birth to an annual week-long festival celebrating the city’s unique heritage! To cut a long story short, what happened was that the city was re-built very quickly after the earthquake and thus many of the buildings today are unique in the fact that they are built in the art deco style of those days. And because of that, the city has embraced its heritage and today puts on a week-long art deco festival every February. … Which is a really magical way to spend a week in February among thousands of other visitors who get into the spirit by dressing up and turning the clock back for a week every year! ------------------------------------------------------------------ If you enjoyed this episode, please do SUBSCRIBE.
