Hillside Office - Tiny House with Art Deco Inspired Concrete Foundation

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Hillside Office Building on a Decorative Foundation This is a tiny house office space I built about ten years ago. I had the need to build in a location (hillside) that was less than ideal for the construction project. While looking for a solution I found and visited the Conde B. McCullough Memorial Bridge in Coos Bay, Oregon and it quickly became the main inspiration for the foundation of my tiny house office. At the time I had almost no experience with decorative form building and had to go on the hunt for good accountable reference material. I found a lot of photos on the internet but it was tough to find anything with a solid lesson on this type of work. So I turned to the books and found “Concrete Construction” by H. H. Siegele. The copy I now own is from the 1940’s. It provided an understanding of the sound fundamentals that were necessary for this build. But I still had to learn about new materials and combine the new and practiced information to achieve the desired result. In this slide show I attempt to give you an overview of this process. And hopefully provide a bit of insight on the challenges you might face if you attempt a similar project. I start with the Conde B. McCullough Memorial Bridge and my test pieces and end with a finished tiny house office space equipped with power and internet. I hope that you find this video inspirational, informative and possibly instructive. Thanks for watching! (Affiliate links) BOOKS & REFERENCE: Concrete Construction by H. H. 1. Wow, so amazing. I am sure it killed you to sell the place after building this! You don't like doing anything the easy way huh :) Great video man.
  2. Intresting project! Great job!
  3. You Rock! This is a very classy look with your pillars.
  4. That was incredibly well built. Enjoyable video! Thanks ;)
  5. Very very cool build. I never thought about using concrete within forms in the way. I don't think I could have waited 10 days let alone 30 to cure. Nice stuff.
  6. Truly remarkable work. Congratulations on a well planned and well executed project.
  7. gorgeous work thanks for sharing :)
  8. grande. bravo. i miei complimenti.
  9. Wow amazing! I really like american architecture (especially in San Francisco). In Russia we are use to build boring houses with no inspiration :(
  10. Super cool, so much effort you had to put in to it! I poured a flat slab for a large patio and built a roof structure to cover it and I thought THAT was a lot of work--doesn't even compare to your project!
  11. Wow bro... nicely done...
  12. Damn that was kewl !
    So much wizardry :-)
  13. Awesome build, I bet you miss that office a lot.
  14. That is amazing and I bet will last forever. Extra cool that it was mostly from reclaimed materials. What part of the country are you in?
  15. Beautiful project, it must have hurt to leave it behind
  16. so cool.
  17. I remember talking about this the other night. Glad you listened and followed through. Even though you didn't have video the slide show with voice over worked fantastically. Loved this build. This is the only concrete formed base I've seen like this. Simply beautiful. Great job. This probably sold the house.
  18. Man I love this, you have a good sense of design a lot of people would just drive a whole stack of posts in the ground as supports but you have taken a very aesthetic approach to create a very beautiful construction that has echoes of Japanese architecture . I love it.
  19. I bet that was the factor for the new owner was that building...amazing work on it..
  20. That is beautiful work!
