  1. sounds like the old sears catalog houses
  2. Great project - planning restrictions are also a big driver I think..
  3. Seminal work.
  4. Brilliant. In many ways spot on. But (a) let a hundred flowers flourish in the same rich soil - look at the huge interest in the Walter Segal selfbuild exhibition at the Architectural Association in London in January-February 2016, see waltersegal.org and (b) politics - why does government encourage rising house prices? the existing deathly grip on housing provision? what about land ownership and costs? Land banking? etc etc etc. We need to fight on this front too.
  5. Love the sentiment and the concept here. I want to build my next home! I think I'll start small though. Are there plans available for a backyard kid fort, treehouse, or playhouse?
  6. seems the architects will lose one sector of their business
  7. Maybe "buildings houses that last for hundreds of years" is a bad idea. I mean you wouldn't want to be stuck with the same phone or car (or pretty much anything else) for hundreds of years. Victorian building technology sucks. 25 years from now, our building technology will most likely suck.

This idea that housing should be non-mobile, non-modular, and enslavingly expensive is kindof crap.
  8. I cannot remember the last time that I felt a ripple of pure excitement whilst watching or listening to a piece about responding to the housing crisis.   This was inspirational and I am keen to see how we can play a part in making it happen.   Thanks for reminding me of something I had forgotten!
  9. I like this, we do have it against us though, we're fighting against those with the money who can outbid us on land. And they're in bed with the people in government that can help make this work, it wouldn't be easy but better to try than not
