The film looks into the proceeding years since Hurricane Katrina struck the New Orleans and Gulf Coast region, and also focuses on the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and its effect on the men and women who work along the shores of the gulf. Many of the participants in Levees were also featured in this documentary. It won a Peabody Award in 2010 "for ambitiously chronicling one of the hugest disasters in American history, interrogating the well-known narratives and investigating other stories that could have easily fallen through the cracks."[1]

Comments

  1. I feel bad for New Orleans from what I read they should have fixed the levees they should have gotten help quicker now it's just a city below sea level that smells bad and just not a good place anymore
  2. The story of the woman named Kathy who found herself in Utah after the storm was so poignant. She was happy to leave New Orleans yet could not feel at home in Utah. So many people ask how a person could want to live in a city with so many problems, but the feeling of HOME is a powerful thing. I'm sorry she was so unhappy even after moving back to New Orleans.
  3. There's a documentary named "Trouble the Water," that is pretty decent. It shows a young sista that recorded some before, during, and after the natural disaster. That documentary like this introduced myself to things that I couldn't or wouldn't have thought that folks had to deal with certain things. Stories should and need to be shared. See the part that dealt with the 5 year old, really choked me up. That baby and my baby are the same age. Couldn't imagine in any way losing my baby then or now. She'll be 16 at the end of this month
  4. The entire state of Louisiana, especially New Orleans, needs to diversify and stop pushing so much partying, good times, and food to the exclusion of all else.
  5. Brad Pitt is awesome he should. run for president!
  6. Inhale the formaldehyde Bitches
  7. Weapons down Bitches
  8. The Tiggs family still live in tent city
  9. Where all my refugees at bitches
  10. Who dat bastards
  11. The lady at the very beginning was super annoying. Never understood the "culture" of grown adults rhyming words together thinking they sound angry when instead it's hilarious.
  12. So much corruption here. As i said, the government let us down but ALL the local leaders let down the people of Louisiana and im so sorry. Hope your life is well and attempting back to normal.
  13. sounds like planned gentrification. the negligence to get the levees fixed, the negligence for political parties to act and afterwards moving people out of their homes out of town then raising the rent?....a damn shame
  14. Ummm.... Is this about the game or the Hurricane??? 9 minutes in..... this is ridiculous.
  15. I love how all the thumbnails make the video look like good quality then you come to them and they look like they were recorded with a potato
