Imagine: Chicago Lakeside Development

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

A global initiative for innovative living. A catalyst for a "New Chicago." A powerful beginning. Lakeside presents a game-changing urban ideal for not just Chicago's Southeast lakefront, but for the entire region. With visions for a new, dynamic and diverse community, the site that was once America's largest steel mill will transform into a compelling model for a green, 21st century lifestyle. As a joint venture between McCaffery Interests and United States Steel Corporation, the Lakeside idea is centered around a design for living differently. Lakeside's vision for the nearly 600-acre site includes plans for a connected and accessible community, next generation infrastructure, innovative architecture and lakefront access, all surrounded by a vibrant mix of residential, retail and commercial space, a new high school and a 1,500 slip marina. The project, which will take an estimated 25-45 years to reach completion, will create the ultimate urban experience. chicagolakesidedevelopment.com/ facebook.com/chicagolakesidedevelopment mccafferyinterests.com/ ussteel.com/uss/ cleanenergytrust.org/ som.com/

  1. The vision for this is unbelievable, I would truly hope to join a project that helps develop this vision. I live just a few blocks down from this plot of land right off the 83rd Metra station .
  2. It is a great opportunity but realistically it wont evolve in time and global warming effects might. The site is massive and certain architectural styles would be needed vs. familiar cubistic Miesian type buildings. It involves to me shoreline subtleties that have to adhere to the neighborhoods just west. It would have to sit idle until the right designers and ideas come into the picture.
  3. It Folded
  4. This will never happen that part of chicago is so ghetto
  5. so has this already ben started? is there a set date for ground breaking? or is this just fantasy?
  6. this is also a really bad neighbor hood
  7. Hey man, a quiet place to live, right next to the lake. The screwballs are gone. In prison or dead. My biggest problem when mowing the lawn is hitting snakes.... such nice quiet creatures. Kills me to run over them. Love it down here. Any smart person should buy land here. M.
  8. South works will remind people its on the South Side. The places everyone loves to hate
  9. Terror Town was the name given to it by the bangers, it's been called that for over 20 years. The big question is who REALLY pays for this? and after it's paid for will it be a place for the uber rich? Rahm will provide nothing for the working man AT ALL!
  10. This is an amazingly bold project, and it's exactly what the South Side (and Chicago as a whole) needs. This is a huge win-win for everyone and will be a historic achievement.
  11. Nightlife, art and culture? It looks like someone from Nome or Omaha wrote this script. It will take another 200 years to put South Works or South Shore back on the map as a place where families can grow. 83rd street ,79th, 75th and 71st streets are a war zone. Terror Town is the name the residents have given it now in 2013. The property that was South Works was the most heavily zoned industrial area in Chicago. How did they clean up Times Beach Mo or Loves Canal?
  12. Why not continue calling it South Works? Its edgy, its cool, its the kind of name that developers pay consultants to come up with, complete with marketing packages and background stories. Its already been done for you, handed to you on a silver platter. South Works is the back that America was built on. Steel from this site built skyscrapers and bridges from coast to coast, immigrants accomplished the American dream here. But you are tossing it for "Chicago Lakeside". Foolish.
