India's Architecture One

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

I have found in Mumbai a myriad of decorative motifs and architectural styles from Victorian, Art Deco, Hindu to dramatic Mughal; all living, cohabiting together. This particular fusion between the clean, sleek lines of Art Deco interwoven with the sensuous curves of Hindu and Islamic aesthetics is unique to India; it kept me continuously wondering which time machine brought me there. If I had to color the city I would use a sepia palette, definitely. Most amazing are the smudged fractures, the stains all over pavements and facades, secret codes telling entire different stories every time you look at them. I'm not posting now cute postcards, these you can get from the web. The way real people live is what moves me, human enterprise is what amazes me; bottom line, it is what essentially shapes architecture. Music: Sarvesham from Shivoham's album Shanti Mantras.
