Interior Design — Small Condo Inspired by Mad Men

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Designer Alexandre Blazys shares a small condo in Montreal with incredible architectural millwork, warm wood details and a color palette inspired by nature. See how he created an ultra-functional living space in this one-bedroom home with smart storage and a mix of woods. Alexandre was inspired by the colors of fall so red, orange and blue translates into a modernist vibe created in the open living area. The dining set on the other hand is kept fresh and light, and really pops in the warm-toned space. Spanning the entire width of the room, the back wall has built-in storage behind a sliding door, including the TV and books on the living room end and tableware by the dining table. Kept simple in design, the small galley kitchen is enveloped in oak veneer and accented with marble countertops and backsplash. To make it seem larger, Alexandre added mirrors throughout. 1. Very attractive. Beautiful colors and clever storage space. Loved the sliding door over the bookshelves. Good use of classic furniture pieces. The kitchen was a little jewel. Such a relief to see some color instead of the usual gray and white.
  2. Love the storage, very practical.
  3. Love, love, love it!
  4. It is different in a unique way. Obviously people who are into clean symmetrical spaces will find this unappealing. I am a fan of Mad Men and have seen the whole series so I can appreciate the Mad Men inspiration and character! I 100% could see Don Draper living in this apartment.
  5. I actually really liked this!
  6. there will always be those people who watch a house&home video and say its ugly/cluttered\out of style\etc . just because its not your cup of tea doesn't mean its ugly. people need to stop nitpicking on minor shit.
  7. Is that a Mies van der Rohe condo!? I always thought they were office towers, I guess because I'm from Toronto (TD Centre). Love the building, the unit is not my style though.
  8. Tiny?!!
  9. Ummm...well the bed and windows is attractive
  10. Sorry not really my cup of tea.....nothing seems to work together but that's just me
  11. Full wall shelves and the big sliding door! Very cleaver idea.
  12. Gorgeous!!
  13. I live in 424 square feet. This space does not look small.
  14. the house looks messy except the kitchen.
  15. My condo is even smaller with the same wall-to-wall windows and I can tell this one achieved all the funcionality I'm trying to get out of my 400sq fts. However the look is oldish. To my mind, lines are too masculine and I found use of wood excesive in this case. I'd love to see the bathroom.
It seems that this kind of building only goes along with modern and minalist style which I truely dislike. It was encouraging to see that someone else's attempt to avoid minimal and priorize functionality over looks.
  16. first time I disliked a House&Home video.
  17. nah! it looks old. looks like a cluttered condo. stressful in the eye.
