In the village of Nazaret, with a stunning view over the valley, lies the beautiful retro-futuristic "grotto" house "Casa Omar Sharif" or LagOmar. The house was with César Manrique's creativity designed by the artist Jesús Soto and built by the British real estate developer Sam Benady. In the early 1970s, was the actor Omar Sharif on the island regarding the film "The Mysterious Island", where he visited, fell in love and bought the house from Benady and renamed it to LagOmar. But Benady had other plans. Aware of Sharif's love for gambling he challenged the actor to a round bridge. Sharif was not aware that Benady was a champion player, and lost the house during the game. In 1989 the house was bought by architects Dominik von Boettinger and Beatriz van Hoff, who started the final stage of development. They sought advice from local artists and created a vernacular architecture inspired from the elements on the island. Today it is one of Lanzarote's most spectacular properties, majestically formed and created by nature with labyrinths and caves of molten lava that once flowed down from the volcano behind the property. Really worth a visit to enjoy the property or for a delicious meal in the restaurant.
