Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Presented by Tom Mellins, independent curator and author Mr. Mellins, a Sensuous Steel: Art Deco Automobiles catalogue contributor, explores the origins of the twentieth-century visual style known as Art Deco and traces its American development, including the role of both museums and department stores in disseminating a "look" that was applied to everything from skyscrapers to toasters. He examines the varied responses of critics and historians over time, as well as the style's enduring popularity with the public—a phenomenon that continues to this day.
