Lord Peter Wimsey - Title & End Credits (First Version)

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Title & End Credits for the first four-part episode, Clouds of Witness, of the BBC's series Lord Peter Wimsey, with Ian Carmichael wearing Mylord's monocle. With the second four-parter, Titles & End Credits changed to stay in style from then on. These titles here remind a bit of those for the Peter Cushing Sherlock Holmes series done by the BBC in 1968, while the later ones probably lead the way to ITV's spectacular Art Nouveau opening for Poirot in the Eighties. If you ask me, Carmichael war perfect in the role, and the series was quite exciting - while the later one with Edward Petherbridge as Lord Peter taking over for the then unfilmed novels bored me to death, I have to confess.

Comments

  1. I watched this program on Australian TV in 1976 I think. The only line I recall, after 34 years ran something like; "They're hung already. It was the sound of the bells that killed Deacon..."
  2. Thanks for sharing this! I wonder if you would happen to have footage of credits to "The Nine Tailors", another LPW series. For the one particular episode I'm of which I'm thinking there's an exterior shot of the church with the bells pealing in the distance with the credits superimposed. I would love to see that if you have it!
