The aftermath of a powerful hurricane once meant a new beginning, hundreds of hotels and apartment houses were built in Art Deco Style and today, they blend well with the local lifestyle. Since the 1950s, Virginia Key has been the home of the Miami Seaquarium, a marvelous world of marine life. It soon became world famous due to the incredible performances of its marine life and part of the TV Series 'Flipper' was filmed there. The Miami region is a melting pot of immigrants from Latin America and the Caribbean, a lively metropolis on the edge of the Everglades and the Florida Keys. 7. Luis, it is approx 5 hours from LAX to MIA. As for hotels, thee are literally hundreds in every price category. Miami is big so first decide which area you wish to stay. If you are planning to stay on the beach, there are many areas each with its own flai. South Beach is world famous for its wide white sand beaches, people watching and night life. Funky, hip and filled with shopping, a fin place if you don't mind the crowds. Further north in the 50's and 60's you will find luxury properties but not much walkable shopping. Great for smaller crowds. Further north is Bal Harbor with its chic manicure style and very upscale shopping. Further north is the burgeoning Sunny Isles with its skyscrapers and proximity to Aventura and just a short drive to Hollywood and Ft. Lauderdale. Hope this helps some. No matter where you stay, try to save time for Coral Gables, the Beverly Hills of Miami and the funky hip Coconut Grove.
