Mike Biddle: We can recycle plastic

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

http://www.ted.com Less than 10% of plastic trash is recycled -- compared to almost 90% of metals -- because of the massively complicated problem of finding and sorting the different kinds. Frustrated by this waste, Mike Biddle has developed a cheap and incredibly energy efficient plant that can, and does, recycle any kind of plastic. TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate.

  1. I would happily wash, kept and even separate my plastics and ship them to you if you'd take them! Please!
  2. I doubt this is cost effective, which means it's tax subsidized, which means this is a fund raising infomercial, right?
  3. does this truly cheaper than traditional plastic production? If it is, the how much?
  4. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  What a wonderful man.  I love this talk.
  5. Do we know more about how it's sorted? What's it's production rate? How many chemicals are used to make a uniform color? He says 70% to 80% decrease in energy use to produce the same plastics, but how far back in the original operation is he going? Is he including from ground zero pumping out the oil?
  6. MBA polymers to anwser what was the name of his company
  7. This is great we are recycling but all those big machines must be run on oil no?
It looks like alot of energy goes in to recycling :/
  8. In North America look for 'EcoLogo' certification. This is truly an audited program licensed by 'UL' -Underwriters Lab with extremely stringent criteria for both the products and manufacturing facilities. As an example look up criteria CCD-126 for plastic bags.
  9. Mike should go to that Hawaiian island beach that's sand has been replaced by feet deep of tiny multi-coloured plastic chips, suggested to have produced by wasted items being churned for years out at sea, and pick it up. Or, someone else can get it first? Half the jobs already done for you!

  14. YOU ABSOLUTELY ROCK!
  15. To those wondering, the company is MBA Polymers. It operates in USA, Austria, China and UK. I wonder what are the chances of introducing it into my own country (Mexico).
  16. Nature made materials and man made plastics. Where they came from and where they are going. See YouTube video "Materials and the evolution of Plastics, Simplified".
  17. This man is a fantastic human being. Well done, sir!
