MUSICAL CODES OF ART - Futurism, Vorticism, Bauhaus

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

'Musical Codes of Art' by Gregory Ser is an interesting sound experiment that has a strong relation to visual arts. Its concept is based on coding titles, dates of creation, names and creation techniques of existing masterpieces of art. The chosen paintings, sculptures, architecture projects, statues etc. belong to several prominent art movements of the 19th and 20th century: impressionism, futurism, vorticism, bauhaus and pop art. The codes were turned into music scores which were then given to live musicians who performed and recorded the resulting melodies. At the same time, the works of art inspired the author to create 'noise soundscapes' that would act as an invisible accompanying 'orchestra' to the recorded performances. The result turned out to be some interesting pieces of music, very unusual and quite 'avant-garde' in their nature.
