National Geographic Channel's Worlds Smart Cities: San Diego

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

National Geographic Channel features San Diego as the only U.S. city in its acclaimed documentary series "World's Smart Cities". San Diego was chosen for its strong technology sector, local innovators, green practices, smart public planning and an unparalleled quality of life. Other selection factors included San Diego's size of population, demographics/cultural diversity, livability, economy and business climate, educational institutions, leadership and strong sense of community. National Geographic Channel's "World's Smart Cities: San Diego" documentary is an unprecedented exploration of the 8th largest U.S. city where technology, talent and innovation create a new urban environment - one that will emerge as a leading city in the 21st century. "Both business and leisure travelers have known about San Diego's appealing weather and friendly beach lifestyle for years," said Joe Terzi, President and CEO of the San Diego Tourism Authority. "However, 'World's Smart Cities' will show viewers worldwide that San Diego has more than a sunny outlook. The city's talent, innovation and creativity highlighted in this documentary prove that San Diego's business environment and local culture are among the world's best." 1. USA! USA! USA!
  2. I am a San Diego tour guide. I am so lucky to live in the nicest city in America. Every time I show visitors around I see this wonderful place for the first time through their eyes.
There is so much more to San Diego than this video had time to show. Come on over and be shown around by your friend in San Diego! San Diego Michael. SanDiegoMichael.com
  3. I live in San Diego -- i personally find it terribly tame, and boring, and bland.
I'd rather live in San Francisco or Seattle. -- i like Washington state...I briefly grew up there as a child because of a Military move....but I want to move back there.
  4. how well is the public transportation system there? can you reach every important point of the city with the tram (fast)?
  5. Great video, I think San Diego is doing amazing things; I have visited a few times... got a bit crazy is Gaslamp district lol... however connecting ships to shore power is not unique to San Diego, this is done at every single port that I have visited in America.  Don't mean to digress, great video/great city :-)
  6. Fantastic.
  7. We don't hear much about SD in the news (except for Anchorman, of course...), tot too many problems ? Is it also a sanctuary city ?
  8. Where are the black people? This city is racist.
  9. This nat geo guy is low on energy, in other words boring
  10. so...they gentrified it?
  11. san diego seems clean safe and beautiful, but la and sf seems dirty and ...not safe
  12. As a Texan, San Diego is the ONLY place that I want to live in the US. I am a soldier in the Army but I should have joined the Marines haha. Although I am studying Japanese and want to live in Japan, I hope to live in SD before or after Japan.
  13. love my SD !!!
  14. I am a student and settled in San Diego. This is heaven on earth with so mixed culture. the people are being very friendly and respectful. No limits for fun ...
  15. OK. Try spend 2 hours in traffic to get to work and 2.5 hours to get back home. EVERY WORKING DAY!!! - Not 1 (ONE!) synchronized traffic light (Europe drives on them for last 30 years and they are easy as christmas tree lights). Poverty hoods, Barrios, homelessness, hunger on every corner (not shown in the film), ethnic divisions where even blacks don't fit into Mexican Only areas. This bed of flowers is full of weeds too. I live here 30 years and getting tired of it.
  16. this documentary is bullshit, south san diego looks like goddam tijuana, its becoming too mexicanized. san ysidro looks like your in a third world shithole
  17. I love San Diego it's like a paradise
  18. Getting sick of "The Narrator" voice.
  19. oh i started loving this place. i want to move here. this video inspired me so much. it realizes me that i am living in shit. 😬
  20. I think European are some of the smartest cities in the sense the it is walkable and has small family owned shops
