Postmodernism rejects boundaries and is often associated with deconstruction. The idea of breaking down the distinction between "high" and "low" (popular) art is a key element of postmodernism. Postmodern art presents a challenge to traditions of fine art, Aesthetic beauty within a postmodern context is arbitrary and unfixed, determined by the artist at the time of creation. All of these translate to an artwork that can be a painting? a sculpture? or is it really something else? At a glance. this may help art to flourish. Yet in essence, this is an acceptance of the chaos that could give meaning to a plag. Globalization is the most important phenomenon in the history of recent art. In the present-day world where "East meets West", postmodern values have been transforming all aspects of everyday life, materialistically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually. How we attempt to nudge out of postmodernism and onto the next wave of art? Would there be any new art movement? Philosophical discourse on the above may stir the waters of debate. We are honored to have Dr. Stephen Hicks to come to Hong Kong to scrutinize them once again on the seminar, at the invitation of curator Margaret Chik. 在藝術領域裡，《後現代主義》已從二次大戰結束後持續至今，已有半世紀之多的存在。 簡單地說：《後現代主義》的意思，打破傳統藝術，充滿着挑戰性，甚至破壞性; 藝術的獨特性漸漸消失、原創性模糊不清。 從美學觀點而言，藝術的純粹性被推翻，創作時不拘形式的規範，藝術不只在藝術間存在、繪畫不是繪畫、雕塑也可以不是雕塑。 如果這樣繼續下去，雖然可造就了藝術更多的可能性出現，但卻造成散漫無序及不具特定批判水準的結果。 另一方面，全球化的趨勢下，開放與融合讓東西方的文化互相影響，物質和精神上生活密切地與後現代的潮流緊緊扣着。該如何去正視盲目追隨？藝術的未來究竟又會變成什麼局面？會否有新流派出現？ 就上述議題，論說常常出現南北相異，相反對立的情況。榮幸地，Dr. Stephen Hicks 接受藝術策展人 戚小姐邀請來香港舉行《 後後現代藝術與香港21世紀再啟蒙 》 研討會。 1 Hong Lai Road, Hung Hom, Kowloon
