Norman Foster: Building on the green agenda

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

http://www.ted.com Architect Norman Foster discusses his own work to show how computers can help architects design buildings that are green, beautiful and "basically pollution-free." He shares projects from throughout his career, from the pioneering roof-gardened Willis Building (1975) to the London Gherkin (2004). He also comments on two upcoming megaprojects: a pipe to bring water from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea, and the new Beijing airport.

  1. Really interesting talk, wish it was much higher resolution but given its upload date its to be expected.
  2. jfc why can't people understand how to use words, digital doesn't means is computerized and analog doesn't mean is non-computerized. Get a fucking book of signals and systems analysis!!!! there are analogous computers!!! digital means a systems uses digital signals of communication among components which are continuous in time and discrete in some other non-free variable, in the case of computers is discrete values of voltage vs continuous time. Analog means continuous variables depending upon continuous variables.
  3. He didn't come up for air once.
  4. did he really think HK bank he design are sustainable ??? ... the problem is we always have a new young generation than confused all the time, by the senior architects speaks their egos !!!!
  5. Come on mate! Do you really still believe what the news say! Wake up!
  6. *Lord Norman Foster
  7. and you know fuck the news....too much exagerration and lies
  8. he is not wrong
  9. Please excuse my ignorance...what software does Mr. Foster use to model the forces of wind and for 3d modeling?
  10. red white and blue! dutch flag?
  11. This video.. cool. wiki wiki cha boom ba. Merry Christmas Yo
  12. lies
  13. Green is about as cool as AIDS. What a pusscake.
  14. Norman Foster is becoming the poster boy of Greenwash architecture. What was the energy rating of the Lord Mayor's office Norman??? Are your 'future-proofed' buildings ready for smart meters and 24/7 post occupancy evaluation???
  15. pretty inspiring!
  16. I like the idea of building cities vertically instead of laterally. It cuts way back on need for cars and transportation and the overall 'footprint' of the city.
  17. That was interesting..Check out a green innvention of minee..Multi Usage Leverage Enhancer...uses leverage instead of hydraulics to lifft heavy objecta
  18. Chachalaca777 First, your calculation is correct! But the ice sheet is not 60 km^3. You have actually missed quite a lot of zero..... For example (from wiki): The Antarctic ice sheet contains 30 million km³ of ice.
  19. It's a pleasure to be able to post this on my blog.
  20. chachalaca777, you just calculated it. Interesting. The world's scientists calculated it to be as much as 20 feet in NYC and Southern Florida. Maybe you should give one of them a call.
