Now THAT'S a tree house! Startling pictures of homes in the canopies as enthusiasts take childhood passion to new heights www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2052093/Now-THATS-tree-house-Startling-pictures-homes-canopies-enthusiasts-childhood-passion-new-heights.html ~ American tree houses show off traditional architecture at its best - but they are a far cry from these breathtaking Swedish wonders. The Treehotel project, around 40 miles from the Arctic circle in Sweden, offers a series of futuristic shelters up in the trees. Perhaps the oddest is the UFO - a lightweight design that is big enough for four people and has separate bedrooms, bathroom and a living area. On Vancouver Island in Canada are the magical Free Spirit Spheres, which are suspended like giant pendants throughout the forest and can be rented by visitors - over the age of 16. Inventor of the spherical tree house, Tom Chudleigh, says: 'The concept borrows heavily from sailboat construction and rigging practice. It's a marriage of tree house and sailboat technology. 'Wooden spheres are built much like a cedar strip canoe or kayak. Suspension points are similar to the chain plate attachments on a sailboat. Stairways hang from a tree much like a sailboat shroud hangs from the mast.'
