For all those who are saying Dubai GDP is only 3% oil... first of all, all skyscrapers are built using money from Abu Dhabi or other oil based income, and not from tax payer's money. Secondly, Dubai does not generate enough money from taxes/exports/sales to sustain its economy. So, it will go bankrupt as soon as oil runs out in other emirates of UAE. Third, I read a report on Dubai that if Dubai needs to sustain its population only on tourism then it needs to increase the price of hotel room and taxes for foreigners by 1500% percentage which is too high. Only then each foreigner coming to Dubai will be paying enough money to sustain healthcare, food, education, travel subsidies given by the government to Dubai citizens. So, I think Dubai will not be able to sustain its economy without oil.
If you really want to see countries that are doing well without much natural resources then see Israel and Switzerland. Dubai should become like those to survive.
