Often in early college design classes you'll be working broadly on design methodology so design problems can incorporate both landscape design and building design. Stanford's program is pretty unique so I can't speak for all architecture programs, but I believe the two fields are pretty similar until you get into specifics of plants and such. I would even say urban planning is closer to landscape design after a certain point.
Does landscaping have anything to do with architecture? in college do they have to take any of the same classes between becoming a landscaping designer and an architect?
