Liverpool's first tunnel under the Mersey: Queensway, after Queen Mary. A beautiful monument to industry and economic wealth decorated in the futuristic and optimistic art deco style of the period. Compared with the later Mersey crossing - Kingsway, it is proof that functional architecture does not have to be ugly, harsh and brutal.
