Welcome explorers, to the retro-futuristic art of Rob Murdoch. Here you will find examples of art imagined within the mind of a Puny Earthling influenced by Sci-Fi, Architecture & Machinery of the 1930’s, 40’s & 50’s. After spending possibly several light years fabricating these items, mostly from recycled parts, Rob is finally able to bring to you an assortment of Rayguns, Blasters, Otherworld Vehicles and Vessels. Also discover creatures modeled in the likeness of those inhabiting a particularly familiar small blue/green planet. Rob Murdoch approached Lightwave Gallery to exhibit his art with a view to having a solo exhibition "Cpt Rob and The Dark Side of the Mount”. His work covers the general “diesel punk” genre of the fast growing “steam and enjin punk” movements covering the Victorian era of science fiction novels. These were days when authors could only dream of ray guns, rockets, and time travel. We decided that we would write a series of short journals (http://www.lightwavegallery.co.nz/retro-futuristic.html) giving the background stories to Cpt Rob. Rob is sole heir to the Murdoch Industry’s empire, purveyors of fine ray guns for the solar traveler since last Thursday tea time.
