Skyscraper farms and edible walls - Living Architecture: Jim Mumford at TEDxYouth@SanDiego

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Sharing beautiful images and a compelling story about how his successful plant scape business bloomed into a pioneering player in the burgeoning field of living architecture, Jim Mumford shows how uber-sleek depictions of futuristic cities are way off the mark. His talk to San Diego high school students on the theme of "Architects of the Future," demonstrates how plants and metropolitan habitats on walls, roofs, patios at work and at home will bring nature into our lives even more in the future, not less. Founder of a plant scape business with an environmentally conscious approach, Mumford launched GreenScaped Buildings in 2009 after curiosity about green roofs turned into a passion for living architecture and related disciplines. A certified landscape professional, accredited contractor and accredited green roof professional, he was named an "Eco-Warrior" in 2010 by San Diego Magazine. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  1. Some of these strategies are interesting for sustainable development. Not sure about top soil in highrises; due to possible overgrazing, and contamination of a limited resource.
  2. Dude....get free picks for one week from the following website: HOWTOBETONSPORTS.NETAU.NET I came across this back in August and have been making cash every week. If you don't like it just walk away. That is the best part.
