Tensile Fabric Architecture: Part One - Materials & Forms

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Interested in knowing more about tensile fabric structures and the technology behind them? From yurts made out of animal skins to modern and even futuristic building schemes, this video series shows just how exciting and inspiring tensile membranes can be. This video is part one in a four part overview of how tensile fabric structures can benefit a design scheme. Part one introduces fabric structures as a building method and provides an overview of the materials which can be used and the forms which can be created. Parts two, three and four talk more in depth about the benefits, practicalities and processes involved in taking a tensile fabric structure from scheme design to practical completion and beyond. Part Two http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6M2GRK3jyVE Part Three http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsDc27PDLos Part Four http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIEOaU0tvg0 Further information can be found at www.architen.com

  1. great!!!
  2. can we have plants running on roof tensile
  3. what software was used to create the 3d models? i am currently using ads max and having difficulty to achieve the realistic fall and tension. any help with this would be great, thank you.
  4. Interesant și uimitor în același timp.
  5. I am thanking you for this amazing presentation; I am still new to the market and I have my own plant in Egypt running tensile fabric architecture to the market where we don't have this knowledge ... I am really happy that we can find someone who really care about standards, this presentation added alot to me  .... Chapeaux
  6. what is the name of the building in 00:17?
  7. Thank you very much. The last part of video helps me a lot for learning tensile architecture.
  8. Structural design is really intriguing, and really adds that unique element to an event. Great video!   #eventprofs
  9. Hi Anthony, glad you enjoyed the presentation. We have heard of hdpe and given the types of projects we work on, hdpe would not be a good fit. Thanks for the offer though. Jason
  10. excellent presentation. have you heard of knitted hdpe for external shading? if you'd like to learn more please let me know
  11. In response to your question - back in the day, we would hand sketch tensile structures on paper. Today, with advances in technology, we use specialist software designed for our business to develop tensile fabric patterns and shapes. It's an exciting time to be in the industry.
