The Vanity Ballroom: Detroit, Michigan: Historic Abandoned Building (Detroit Dreaming)

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

The Vanity Ballroom was designed by Charles N. Agree in an Art Deco Aztec theme and hosted some of the best bands from 1929 through the end of the 1950's. The Vanity Ballroom was one of the best dance ballrooms in Detroit, Michigan but has been abandoned for almost two decades and is in a dilapidated state as you can tell from the footage shot in early November, 2009. 1. How did you get in there? Would love to know
  2. History can really be a cruel reminder sometimes..
  3. My band played the Vanity in August of '87. Seeing what has become of it in just 25 years, it's hard to believe we had running water, electrical service, paper towels, etc. The place was clean and tight and that massive, spring-loaded dance floor was amazing. What a damn shame. I was fascinated by the place and did some exploring before the show. Regrettably none of us brought a camera that night.
  4. I heard this place got pretty badly vandalized since this video was shot? do you have any idea if that's true and, if so, just how badly? :(
  5. great video! thanks for upload :)
  6. it looks like its about to fall on your head and kill u any second but id go in and walk around anyday
  7. Good production that brings back memories. I've included this video on my my channel for the benefit of my Urban Economics students at Wayne State University.
  8. These old buildings remind me of giant headstones. Just a bad thing.
  9. Never seen inside the Vanity Ballroom before this. Thanks. It must have been beautiful in the day. Sorry to see it in such a state, yet glad that it still around and not a parking lot.
  10. It really breaks your heart to see all of this hard work just decaying, Detroit needs to get better leadership, and give major tax breaks, or this city is DOOMED until it gets a whole new mindset and some civic pride, man this was once of the world`s great cities, c `mon on Detroiters!
