Things to do in Laos Travel Guide, Top Attractions and Lao Cuisine

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

When you get tired of the often hectic pace of traveling in Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, the sleepy alternative of Laos awaits. With a slower pace of life and a rich culture, Laos offers a lot to potential visitors in terms of its attractions and cuisine. If you have to ask me to pick only one city in SE Asia that I could ever visit again it would be a close call between Chiang Mai, Thailand and Luang Prabang, Laos. We spent our time exploring local temples such as Wat Xieng Thong, climbing hills such as Mount Phou si for great views of the city, visiting the night market, gormandizing on local Lao cuisine and learning how to cook Lao food. What really won us over though is the lack of street traffic, slower pace of life and charming colonial architecture. It's a city where you'll want to linger for days on end and if we decided to return to SE Asia - in the near future - it is a potential base for us. After reluctantly leaving Luang Prabang, we ended up in the capital city of Vientiane after taking the overnight bus. Although Vientiane, has a bit of a bum rap (some have called it the most boring capital city in Asia) we happen to think it's a decent stopover for a couple of nights. You can spend your days exploring museums and temples and your nights cooling off along the Mekong River (where you'll notice locals exercising and relaxing) before grabbing tasty intentional cuisine. The following is a top attractions travel guide offering a snapshot of the best things to do in Laos during your next vacation to the most chilled out country in SE Asia. 5. thank you for this, is there any train going Laos from Thiland? how many hours travel? thank you
  6. I travel the world and two issues these YouTube travel logs don't cover very well (if at all) is public bathrooms, water, and ice. In Cambodia I saw them dragging ice blocks down the street and then putting them in chunks in a bucket to make smoothies. Smoothies are fine, and sound wonderful but not with ice as ice is most often made local water. Or drug across the filthy street to go in a blender. Our systems are not often acclimated to local water....and bathrooms run from....down the alley to exploding poop chambers that you can't breath in. Anyone who makes these things in the future please include these little tid-bits of travel observation. Otherwise this was one of the best videos I've seen...you kept the music out of the way, and focused on the reality of what the place was like. Thanks.

  14. I did the same cooking school, and your guide was the same guy I had, what a legend!

Edit. I have done Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang twice by slow boat, first a tour pre-paid in bangkok and the second I did it by my self.
I paid over 4000b the first time, the second time was a quater the cost. I paid 800b to the border for a van, crossed the new bridge and found 50,000k per night accommodation. I took a cheap tuk tuk to the boats in the morning and got a ticket for 150,000kip, overnight in pak beng I paid 100,000kip for a decent place. So you can do it your self without any worries.
