Tinguely@Tinguely. A New Look at Jean Tinguely's Work

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

http://www.vernissage.tv | Until September 30, 2013, the Museum Tinguely in Basel, Switzerland, presents a comprehensive exhibition of Jean Tinguely's work. The huge retrospective is entitled Tinguely@Tinguely. The Swiss artist Jean Tinguely is especially known for his art machines and considered as one of the main protagonists of kinetic art. He belonged to the Parisian avantgarde and the Nouveau Réalisme (New Realists) in the mid-twentieth century. Tinguely was born in Fribourg, Switzerland, in 1925, but grew up in Basel, where the Museum Tinguely presents his work since 1996. The Museum Tinguely possesses the world's largest collection of Jean Tinguely's artistic work: paintings, drawings, sculptures, machines, installations, videos. In the past 16 years since the opening of the museum the collections has grown considerably and an update of the catalog was urgently needed. Now the new catalogue has been published, accompanied by an extensive exhibition of the Tinguely Collection, the first since many years. As the director of the museum, Roland Wetzel explains: "We show all the Tinguely from 1954 to 1991, but we want to focus especially on the young Tinguely, the very innovative one that created new kinds of art, especially his self-destructing machines or his machines that made drawings, or his early reliefs that put abstract art through movement into a new state."

  5. i had the pleasure of growing up in Columbus,IN where one of his installments is still operating in its original state. Chaos 1,it always fascinated me to watch it as a kid with my dad. Every weekend we would go to the mall that its in and play on the playground. but as soon as i heard the balls rolling i would run to watch it. Sometimes we would go and eat ice cream under it. I love art mainly sculpture, kinetic, and visuals. The more bizarre the better,
  6.  i love his work
  7. wow. i love the sardonic comment on society that is the one with clothes that dance jerkily about at the press of a button. i love it all. genius
